WE BELIEVE IN UNCERTAIN TIMES
A MANIFESTO FOR THE NEAR-FUTURE
WRITTEN BY PRODUCT
Uncertainty is a reminder to us that what is most important for brands and businesses is to become sustainable: to be able to thrive no matter what happens tomorrow.
The internet is old. This century's great innovation engine is now mature. Internet usage is declining for the first time ever, which means it is time to rethink its place in business and society.

But technology's impact continues unabated. Machine learning is upending every sector, especially marketing and customer experience. Soon little will exist that isn't tested, optimized, and relentlessly automated by AI. And while VR may seem like nothing more than a video game, what happens when VR goggles are so small, you clip them on your regular pair of eyeglasses? In fact, miniaturization continues at such an accelerated pace it'll soon be rare for any object to exist that isn't connected.

The early internet
Sustainability is the future.
Businesses must be future-proofed; so they can grow sustainably in the midst of ever-changing technologies, markets, and customer expectations. Brands must prove their purpose, deliver on their promise to their customers, and make a lasting and measurable impact. Companies must make a societal difference through their products and services as people demand more from the firms with whom they do business.

When combining all these trends, the future of business and our future becomes sustainable: continually optimized, always improving, and never at the expense of future generations. That's the future we're all building towards.
Things just hit differently nowadays.
Just a few years ago it would have been unthinkable to develop and launch an effective vaccine, from scratch, in 18 months. Soon this speed will apply to treating every affliction known to mankind and to new product development across every industry.

But the biggest future impact of all is the decarbonization of our economy, which represents the biggest shift in business since the industrial revolution. It's not just about batteries in cars, how goods travel from Dubai to Beijing, or solar farms. It's how every building is made, products are manufactured, and food is grown...all soon to be different.
This museum's new facade is built from bricks made of city waste.
A new recipe uses old bits of concrete and glass to make low-carbon building materials.
